Living a simple, uncluttered life can have many benefits by offering people less to clean, to organize, to stress about and allow for more money to spend on other passions. Here are seven tips on how to declutter your home and live a simpler, happier life.
Take 5 minutes – If starting a declutter project seems daunting, give yourself 5 minutes to start on the project and see how you proceed.
Give away one item each day – Look at giving away one item each day, and you will have 365 \ less items in your home by the end of the year.
Fill one trash bag – A good way to start a declutter project is to take one garbage bag and see how long you will take to fill it.
The Oprah Winfrey Closet Hanger Experiment – This is a simple experiment which will identify what items you wear and what items that need to be given way. Hang all your clothing on hangers and then reverse the hanger direction as soon as you wear and wash your item. Look back at your closet in six months, and you will find that there are some items you never wear.
Make a list – List out the areas you want to declutter and start decluttering the easiest space. Tick the completed area and look at another area to declutter the next week.
12-12-12 Challenge – Look at selecting 12 items to throw away, 12 items to donate and 12 items to be returned to their proper home.
Change your perspective – Take photos of areas you want to declutter and have a look at your pictures over a cup of coffee. You will be surprised at the ideas you can come up with that will declutter and change your space.
